Hurricane Love

I feel I’m in the calm before the storm

I’ve spent the last few days sleeping in because I know it won’t be the norm

At least that’s what everyone tells me

I’m waiting for the water to break

Opinions and advice are more ubiquitous than the ads the TV sells me

And how much pain can my body take?

Will this be like running a marathon?

Or will it be a spa experience in which I’ll sit back and yawn?

What’s gonna happen?

Will it be like Isabel or Katrina? Sandy?

Just a few weeks before the neighborhood kids come around for candy

The leaves are turning

And I’ve read there could be a burning

But I know death results in new life

I’m surrounded by dunes of diapers and wipes

Fleece and onesies

And Raggidy Anne

Disney classics

I’ve thought threw birthing and parenting tactics

But what to expect can’t always be expected

Life’s full of choices and roads

And this is the one I’ve elected

I’ve got the best man by my side

And I believe in a God who doesn’t fall off of His throne

I’m not alone

There’s also anesthesia

Judgment-free (be on standby if I need ya)

For now my feet are up in the rocker

Soon enough we’ll whip out the shiny jogger

And I’ll come back

After my demise

After the waters rise

And the winds roar

Believing this is what I was made for

Beneath our feet right now are forestry leaves, deer, owls, butterflies and unicorns

Contractions are just rose thorns

I can’t wait to hold her in my arms

After the silencing of the alarms

We’ll stroll the shore

With her daddy and Heavenly Father

And even trot the forest

Love for her will be enormous

Willing to go through anything

Stronger than any hurricane
