Quitting my Job

I’m quitting my job

And hopefully I don’t sound like a snob

I’ve started taking things out of my office

And I already apologized to the new girl, a novice

I remember being her nine years ago

Some people have said they’ll miss me

Eh, their sentiments are misleading

Ask me how I know

Within two weeks of replacing my predecessor, most couldn’t remember his name

They’d describe, “The old guy, with the funny walk and too-small glasses…”

Their descriptions, not his gait, were lame

It makes me wonder how they’ll describe me

I’m sure with some words I’ve already heard that I’d rather not repeat

I gave it a good run

Saved most of my paycheck along the way so I could quickly be done

Free to move on to some other things

Success, notoriety, salaries all have wings

Just 23 days to go

They say it takes 21 to form (or break) a habit

The more I think of it (walking on the beach / working out, etc.), the more I grow ecstatic

It’s like riding in a hot air balloon

I’m weightless

I imagine over a California landscape in June

Careless, relaxed

All the letters have been sent out

I can’t go back

How great it is

On to new adventures

Well before needing dentures

I’ll clean my closet out

Dump my brain

Hop on the serenity train

And all the people in the office will ask, “What was her name?”
