Heavenly Things

The Bible doesn’t say too much about heaven

But people like to talk a lot about going there

This earthly life is often spent just gettin’

Gettin’ by or gettin’ yours

But I think there’s more that we’re here for

And what if the point was never to just to go heaven?

What if the sky and the sea really could meet?

Among our rubble there’s still blue and green

Also, ice cream

Moose Tracks and mint chocolate chip

Strawberries and peanut butter dip

There’s also cheesy tortilla strips

But not all the good things here are processed

I find some of the best things cost less

Like the local beach

A Saturday swim with my pup

The great outdoors is our niche

With all the other Golden retrievers

To just live each day, to dive into the bay – they’re so eager

Golden retrievers are angels

See? Heaven is here

Especially when one gives a lick on your ear

A hot bath

My husband’s laugh

It’s like someone whose run out of air

When he lets me know he cares

It’s a good story

Wildflowers and morning glories

A run over the bridge

A long slow run without a stitch

Helpful neighbors

And kind strangers

Lillipads, loving dads

I’m not trying to escape

To me it’s clear

Among the spoons and the Golden retriever fur

Heaven is here
