The Hamstring Mishap

I was on one leg holding a dumbbell

Just 20 pounds

I hinged at the hip, lowered it down

And I almost fell

There was an instant crackle like that of thunder after lightning strikes

Just under my butt, a release but also a feeling like spikes

Something had split / popped / separated

I came back up, waited

It actually wasn’t painful, maybe just sore

Like I’d been to the chiropractor but not much more

A tingling, a rush in my right leg and foot

No blood or other evidence wherever I looked

My rear end later required some ice

I walked around the block, it was nice

A few days later I’ve realized I can’t stand solely on my right leg

But that’s alright, two is more than a peg

They say pregnancy hormones can loosen things

And that balance becomes quite challenging

I’m grateful to still have my hamstring

After my scary hinge

I think this may be for now where the tough workouts end

But I won’t fully stop

Movement, they say, is medicine

So I will walk (carefully) around the block
