Be Golden

Be golden

Let the sun shine on your hair

Live so that the present moment is your only care

Don’t yell at people when they walk by the way little dogs do

Just smile, and maybe wiggle – people will be elated by you

At least a little

Even though you’re huge

Shed your worries like fur

Live like you got nothing to lose

Come close and sit quietly by someone on their roughest day

Go all out when it’s time to play

Stare at your loved ones when they eat

Taste every morsel

Dance jubilantly for every person you meet

Lend your paw but don’t be too forceful

Love like you’re mortal

Like every run, every beach excursion, every treat is your last

Through it all, with each person, have a blast

At nighttime, crash

And wake up slow

Make sure the humans in your life know

That you love them

Smile, shed, stare, dance, take up some space

Eat, run, sleep

Go your pace

Enjoy your friends too

Because you never know when they’ll move to somewhere new

Be fully, 100% you

Don’t overthink it

Don’t worry about stinkin’

Be golden in a dark place

And when your time comes

Return to the Lord

Dawn golden wings

And wait for those in between

Maybe by the door with your leash

Forevermore
