Wind & Hill

The arctic blast was whipping us in our faces

As we climbed up the mountain

From a distance, I’m sure we looked like vases

Erect, holding love and fun

My pup had wanted to go to that park again

So we did

Despite the wind

We ran against it

And we watched the birds over the lake

Try to fly but flap about like they were in the middle of a mistake

And it was freezing

Our noses ran faster than we

Running against the wind, climbing uphill

Zapped all of our strength

Even the birds couldn’t go the full length

Me and my pup slowed before we froze

We finally ascended to the top of that great hill

We looked down at the lake and at the interstate

Everything below

We felt alive, a great thrill

The wind told us, “This is great”

And then went away

As it began to snow
