Three Friends

Who are your three  people?

The ones who have your back

The ones you can talk to about anything

When the facade crinkles

When your night turns black

When you’re crying

My husband, my brother, my mother-in-law

Each of the above answer when I call

They’re sweet to my dog

They’ve got wisdom

They always seem to give a hand to get me across the schism

It’s good to have a friend

One of my husband’s top three came over tonight and dropped off some homemade soup

Because my husband has a cold

He quietly left it there on the stoop

A good friend is worth more than gold

I brought it in, warmed it up, and brought it to him

Our pup too was there

We all bowed our heads and said a prayer

Turns out I’ve got more than three

I’m so grateful to God for these precious friends He’s given me
