Poof!

Today was a poof

Not to be confused with a puff

Well, I guess that too is close enough

The streetlights are on, do you need any more proof?

I saw the sun come up and down

I heard the clock’s hands go all the way around

Today was like a clicked SEND button

A Black Friday shopper huntin’

It was a daffodil releasing its seeds into the wind

It was an afternoon at the lake with my dog (who’s my best friend)

It’s his golden fur shed on the floor

Today is like yesterday, not here anymore

I’ve been obsessed with time since I was about nine

Mesmerized by how nothing stays the same

Everyone moves, like the clock’s hands

Changing tides, addresses, names, and plans

Yesterday was watermelon

Today was pumpkin

I wonder if all the activity amounts to somethin’

Today was a puff

Like those highly processed cheesy snacks I ate as a kid

Half my life is likely nearly over

That’s the truth

And there’s nothing I can do to make it go slower

So I just write poems about it

And take my dog to the lake

In just a moment we’ll be snowflakes
