The Dumpster and the Amazon Truck

It’s a big blue container full of stuff

Ironically somewhat akin to the Amazon truck

Except the former is not on wheels

It’s a little more beat up too

It gives off a somber feel

Outside my neighbor’s house

Just the other day I saw him step out

Now it’s someone else – three people, in fact

Coming and going out the front and back

They carry things out to that big blue dumpster

Like ants on a mission they keep on, unrelentin’

Till that man’s house is empty

I walked by it today and the shades were up

I could see inside from the street

There was no more stuff

That big dumpster is now the storage for it all

Like a casket

Down the street comes the Amazon truck

Full as an Easter basket

Everything a person could ever want – it hauls

On the side of that dumpster are the printed words RENT ME

The Amazon truck promises to get things to me quickly

Do they move at the same speed?

I feel both closing in

As that man’s house is purged, am I witnessing a crime?

Well, one truck promises it’s all sublime

The Amazon truck seems to go to every house

While a FOR SALE sign goes up at the one with the dumpster out front

I go closer to observe

And I peek over the edge of the dumpster

The truth strikes a nerve

Inside are nice clothes, appliances, home goods, books, even cucumbers

I shift my gaze to all the other houses on the street

Amazon is delivering the exact same things

And today I read that homeowner’s obituary
