A Satisfied Stomach

Uuuuuurrrrr

Is it the neighbor kid on his bicycle rolling over gravel?

Or the other neighbor working on his car – and without a paddle?

Rumble rumble rumble

Is it the overstuffed washing machine?

Or the man next door wheeling out the trash can of green?

Maybe it’s thunder

Or the car going by

My suspicions and worries pile high

What if that kid falls off his bike?

What if the neighbor is crazy?

Could the house catch on fire?
Where’s all the trash go ?

So many things I’ll never know

It’s been a long day

There’s that growling again

I sit down to dinner, finally, and let my fork dive in

There’s a silence in the salmon

A peace in the vegetables

A sweetness in the potato

I ponder the inevitable

My husband dines with me

His presence and my pup’s make my heart glow

Somehow the world keeps turning

My stomach finally stops futilely turning

I am full

That kid’s still upright on his bike

The neighbor’s alright

The house is intact

I am fed and loved

Life’s a miracle
