My Beach Monster

When he’s in the water, you’ll only see his head

It’s not too discreet

Sometimes he washes up in a wave with the seaweed

When he comes on land, his coat color matches the sand

He has a smooth jog

If chasing his master, he’ll disappear like the fog

But he likes best to stroll

Sheer enjoyment is his goal

The kids on the shoreline squeal when they see him

Maybe for good reason

He’s 100 pounds

But he’s not known to pounce

His tongue hangs out

He frolics about

He’s an exquisite creature, this one

He knows all about how to have fun

Some people collect seashells and sand

Me, I’m a Golden retriever fan

I get to take this big beach monster home with me

Even with the sun goes down, we’re glowing

He’s the cutest and cuddliest “monster” there is

Covered in sand and saltwater, his snout reaches over and gives me a kiss

Oh, the warmth in my heart

National Geographic could never capture it
