Lady Wisdom in Green

I was on a quest for wisdom

When she came to me in a vision

She was climbing stairs, wearing a green dress

A symbol of wealth, I guess

I knew her platinum blonde hair

She had her signature raccoon eyes (thanks to Maybelline)

I recognized her, my old friend

A year my senior but I always seemed so much greener

Back when we were young, she whispered to me then, “Have as much fun as you can!”

You know, if I were to die today, my greatest regret would be that I took things too seriously

Why a father would tell his daughter to stop studying and to go to the beach – I now understand

Because dogs don’t live forever

The shoreline will erode one day

My friend slipped away, mysteriously

All my pursuits and acquaintances were on the sidelines

My husband reached out for me just in time

That friend I haven’t seen in years

Simply spoke her wisdom and disappeared

Doesn’t God speak in dreams?

My old friend beamed in her dress of green

Was it a modern-day personalized Jacob’s ladder

My friend surely is an angel

My husband too

I’m not trying to spin my own angle

A little insight, a nugget of wisdom, is what I’m trying to gather

My father knew

Oddly enough, the pithy advice I received was simply to have fun

Wisdom means action

So I’ll stop slackin’

I’ll head to the coast – with my pup

And my green cup – for a toast

To my old friend, akin to Lady Wisdom

And I’ll be rich, among the pampas grass and the sea
