Weekend Intensity

“Ooooo. Ooo.”

You scute over on the couch

The sheet touches my toe and I say ouch

We can barely hold our phones

It hurts to type

But we readily agree it’s worth the hype

To run fast

To lift heavy

To climb the walls

To hold a yoga pose steadily

To float in the bay

This is our weekend: Saturday and Sunday

Sunday night in the aftermath

I think about taking a hot bath

My shins are sore

Our forearms are fried

My toenail is bruised

Despite new shoes

Is there any activity we haven’t tried?

Tomorrow’s Monday – maybe a bike ride?

For now, let’s hobble to bed

Even our pup is exhausted

I’m glad to find out middle age can be frosted

With recreation, endless exercise

Somehow pushing the limits makes all feel alive

Tonight it will be sweet

When after our weekend warriorness, we can close our eyes

And I’m forever grateful for you, and the cuddly Golden retriever, by my side
