Secret Bunnies

She brought me some Easter bunnies

Four velvety figurines the size of my fist

Small but not cuddly

There was an unspoken gist

Two baby blue, two baby girl pink

Elegant ribbons around their necks

She was up to something, I think

These bunnies are suspect

They are cute

More so than little kids in Easter attire

I look at those bunnies on the table and they inspire

My dog approaches them and gives them a sniff

He wags his tail and a bunny falls

Down to the hardwood and now its ear is split

What’s underneath is dark

I peel back the velvet

My pup must have smelt it

Chocolate!

I take a bite

My pup topples another bunny over

This one looks like a biscuit

My pup takes it – it’s a Milkbone bunny!

Two chocolate bunnies for me – in pink

Two Milkbone bunnies for my dog – in blue

Turns out my mom knew

The secret to our two hearts
