Cheers to Marriage

Over coffee with friends or while getting blood drawn

While eating toffee, unfazed, one can go on

About what I think is a tragic state

For two, an unexpected and unfitting fate

It makes me think I don’t know either person

It leaves a wake of cursin’

Reminds me of that old necklace I had as a kid: the two half-hearts with jagged edges

There’s no other fitting piece except the original

The former time beckons

I’m left in the middle of the wreckage

Isn’t marriage why we earn money?

Finances shouldn’t ruin chances

Infidelity is unspeakable – it’s beyond unbecoming

Irreconcilable differences?

Separate opinions?

Don’t people get together for the sake of talking?

Teamwork is for solutions

Isn’t the satisfaction, the growth, the joy in superseding the balking?

Persevere, grapple

Together, fight the battle

Go down the path as one

Compromise, in the best sense – you’re bound to have some fun

You wouldn’t be you without the person you choose

We are meant for an eternal, intimate commune

To split things 50/50 leaves both parties empty

When both could have 100

Embark on the mystery

Of two as one

Be an old lighthouse – the couple married for 70 years

Cheers – to marriage ~~~
