Coastal Melody

All the cool people live in California

Just thought I’d warn ya

They’ve all got beach blonde hair like it touched the sun

It’s where all the surfers go to have some fun

Even the novices can get inside the barrel

I’ve seen the videos

And everyone in California’s got the best apparel

At least it’s what the internet shows

Along with the palm trees and the blue sea

It brings your melodies

All your songs, your lyrics, are like the boulevard

The coast, the forest, or the canyon

I was eating dinner and watching you and your friends jammin’

All those melodies tug at my heart

I’ve been following you since I was 16

One of your songs was in a movie inspired by a novel by Nicholas Sparks

That’s how I found your tunes

And when I was 17 me and my best friend saw you at the scene

You came to the East Coast then

I see the gray specks now in your goatee

But you’re still with that beach blonde hair

I know you don’t know me

I’m your biggest fan

Isn’t it neat how music can span

The 2000-some miles and all the states between us

From coast to coast

I hear there’s wildfires where you are

And that the houses drop into the ocean

Weren’t we warned of this?

I think we both wonder where everything’s goin’

I’m grateful for the lifeline you’re still throwin’

Please never stop making music

Though we’re both growing gray

The world could use it

And I’ll keep writing

The sun’s still shining

In California

In Virginia

You’ve still got some beach blonde hair

In your board shorts

You’re still so cool, I hope I’ll see you later

We both must keep reflecting the Creator

From coast to coast
