Silence

How do you describe the silence

Stillness?

Pausing?

Both acts of defiance

The nothingness of it is daunting

To hear a leaf break off from a tree

To watch it float so free

On a cloudy fall day

I’m immersed in the woods as the world spins away

No traffic, no phone

No static

I’m alone

With the peace encased inside a snow globe

The trees are walls

In the quiet, my worries stall

I take a moment to breathe

I have a heartbeat
