Pedestrian

I like being a pedestrian

It’s better than being a motorist, there is no question

Sure, the road is bumpy and there’s potholes

There’s glass and briers

I don’t venture to where there’s tolls

But I’ll take overpasses

I can smell the fires

In the mornings I see the hawks

The simple joy of taking walks

Over train tracks

I always look over my back

Can I out peddle the sewage truck

Feels like every day I’m testing my luck

I face the traffic – red-faced and sweaty

My legs are always heavy

But it’s still better than driving

I used to be self-conscious

But I don’t care anymore because we’re all dying

So let me feel the wind

The pounding of the pavement, the cycling

Nature is my friend

Set me free

Let me watch the sky turn pink

It’s beautiful with the telephone towers contrasting

Like paper and ink

Let me run, let me bike, let me walk

Just to be out of the four walls

Being a pedestrian is what I like
