The Candidates

It’s tough being a hiring manager

There’s a bunch of candidates but I’m not sure

Any of them are really qualified

It doesn’t matter where they side

Or if they’ve done the job before

And according to the election board there’s more than two candidates

But reading their resumes left my mouth agape

Socialism?!!

Stoicism?

With a little touch of some other -isms

This whole thing is a game, a race, an enigma, a prism

I read through the “platforms”

Scroll through the “About” pages

It feels like a violent storm

Peace and justice, healthcare reform, borders

Rights, law and order

Excuse me, sir, let me ask you ma’am, how do intend to carry out your plans?
Pull out of one war and you’ll start another

To deport your neighbor is to disown your mother

And who do you have the right to abort

Planting trees is not time misspent

What about the environment?

It seems that every candidate is coming up short

Is everything all blue or purely red

Is there a soul who hasn’t regretted anything they’ve said

Turns out there’s a green party

If you ask me, a celebration this is hardly

What do I do?

Should I check Indeed?

Write my pup’s name on the ballot?

Where is the real talent?

So I ponder not voting, moving, just running away

Can the position be filled

Will the chaos ever still

Not voting might be my vote

But after thinking for a while, I came to the conclusion

That the idea of a human leader is just an illusion

Till love and justice are the code of every individual heart

Until mercy is where we start

This land will be divided

So I tune in for some introspection

And look to heaven

Check my own heart

As I prepare for the election
