The Law of the Road

Are you tired of looking at my ponytail

Can you see it from your lofty sails

Or do you see me at all

The passenger in front of your glass wall

Two, that is: your cell phone and your windshield

It seems nothing really makes you yield

Orange cones and signs for school zones

Aren’t reason to brake

Nor is a pretty lake

I’m taking my time going over the bridge

I’m in the right lane going the speed limit

You’re welcome to scoot over a smidge

The heights on the water aren’t as mesmerizing as what’s on your screen

Or the red lights reflected into your high beams

What’s that song? Life is a highway…

It’s treachery out here

I’d rather be a pedestrian

At least the bumper stickers have me agreein’

ANY FUNCTIONING ADULT 2024

EITHER DO OR DO NOT. THERE IS NO ‘TRY’

They’re so dandy

And NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOUR STICK FAMILY

Is it every man for himself out here

You can just go around if you want someone to disappear

But no matter how fast or how slow you drive

Whether your road is low or high

Bumper stickers won’t make you quicker

There’s a law over all of us we can’t escape

A target on everyone’s nape

We can only get around for so long

Drive your speed

Are we all fueled by greed

Don’t stick families and all color lives matter

Is there any meaning to all the political chatter

I’ll go my speed

You can go around me

But you can’t ignore the law that hovers over us all

Stronger than the speed limit

Fiercer than any prosecutor

These cars, these noises are just polluters

Pay attention to It
