Glass

It crunches underneath my tires

It sparkles in the sunlight like fire

It glistens in the intersection

If I stop and look close enough I can see my own reflection

It’s pretty but jagged

It’ll leave you ragged

Don’t fall into it

You’ll be tempted to touch it

But don’t do it

It’ll cut you

So sometimes I steer onto the grass

I hop the curb

I dodge the glass

It’s everywhere

And I didn’t know it before

When I drove with big tires

Bigger, more expensive, more shiny is a liar

Big windshields crack and leave the most glass

In someone’s wake

Somewhere

Like us, it breaks

Crunching, glittering, menacing

It doesn’t even try to hide

But I don’t let it stop me

I get on my bike and ride
