CrossFit

We were watching CrossFit

I know it: you’re the one for me

The only other person I know who’d want to work out

So we hit pause

Went into the garage

Past our bedtime

I counted your reps, you counted mine

Then we raced around the block

Like retrievers, we don’t know when to stop

Is it an addiction or an insecurity

Does physique or performance tell

Why we run so hard and lift too-heavy dumbbells

And I was thrilled to learn that me and her have the same height and weight

You reassured me I’m in great shape

And I said you look better than all those bulky dudes

You can match their pull-up reps too

We were sweaty and tired but we scratched the itch

We climbed and pulled, rowed, squatted, ran

But perhaps out of line with CrossFit

We went inside and ate ice cream at the end

You know it? I’m so happy you’re my man
