Dinner

How many people made my dinner tonight

I looked down at my plate

It was bright

And tasted great

Two tannish crabcakes

White cannellini bean and lentil salad with green parsley flakes

Who grew all those beans

Who put them in the can

And the green capers in glass

Where’d they come from

What’s a caper anyway, I have to ask

I don’t want to think about the cow that was lying there, covered in teriyaki sauce

To satisfy my hunger a life was lost

The orange sweet potato covered in cinnamon

The broccoli covered in cheddar

I opened my mouth and put it in

It couldn’t be better

Mustard for the crab because I didn’t have tartar sauce

By the way, how much did all this cost?

I feel my cells digest

And my hunger subside

I feel quite blessed

I’m thankful for this dinner on a Friday night

With my husband on our couch

And the two dogs nestled between me, drool dripping from their mouths
