Husband’s Home

I don’t know how Navy wives do it

This week proved it

You were only gone for five days

It was like the breath left me

I missed you in so many ways

Bereft like I was lost at sea

No one to say “hey” back when I called

Just me inside the four walls

I hung out with a few people to try to fill the void

But no one gets me like you do

It’s always like we’re looking through the same lens

Except we can see what’s behind each other’s back

I’m offense, you’re defense – together we’re a fortress and an attack

This relationship is a safe place in a malicious world

I’ve got an awning in the worst of elements

Wise counsel through all my fears and laments

In the triumphs I have a party-thrower

We like all the same stuff

The only ones who could marvel at a Ryobi lawnmower

Weekend warriors, disc golfers, home bodies

We dust all the scoffers

Golden retriever parents

Small to others, it’s apparent

Iron sharpening iron

Tackling life together

You said today it’s called being in love

Is that what you judge

It’s even better than I imagined when I was young

I think all the movies and books got it wrong

It’s more melodious than any song

Just being with you

You’re worth all my time

I’m glad you’re home

Delighted you’re mine
