Her

I can understand why she did it

Sure, some speculated it was mental instability

But I believe it was legitimate

She probably just wanted to be free

Maybe to blend in

Surely not to stand out

Not even for less shampoo

Who cares if people said she looked like a boy

She did what she wanted to do

Ahoy!

No more honks when she ran down the busy street

No more comments when walking into the room

No special treatment, no scrutiny, no reason to zoom

Just her – amazing her

More than a face or an outfit or a hairstyle

More than her vocabulary or smile

More than her complexion

An amazing human being longing for deep connection

Unrestrained by the trivial

More than subliminal

Her real friends drank coffee with her

Her husband pulled her close

She looked in the mirror and was okay with herself – what hope

All after removing the curse

With a buzzer
