Grandma’s House

Sunday afternoon, a pretty day in May

The pup heard his mama say, “Let’s go to Grandma’s”

He headed to the door

His mama with leash in hand

On the sidewalk, moving forward as planned

Marlin, a white mixed dog jumped the fence

Billy saw him coming and acted in defense

He stepped in front of his mom

Marlin attacked, snarling and growling

Going for the woman’s legs

Billy fought back

With Billy at 100 pounds, Marlin couldn’t compete

Billy smashed him then relented

Then Marlin scurried back home on his feet

Billy tended to his mom

She to him

They were both alright

They continued walking

Admiring every pretty lawn

Grandma’s house was soon in sight

Billy walked faster

He had the route mastered

He followed a trail, nose to the ground

He heard a sound:

A shriek! And then a door slam

It was from Grandma’s house

From out of it he saw Marlin and a hooded man

Billy pulled so hard his mom let go of the leash

Billy took off – he had a lesson to teach

He pounced on Marlin again and took the sack from his mouth

The robber hopped into a car

Billy’s mama went into Grandma’s house

Grandma was on the floor

Bleeding, crying

Her daughter put hands on her chest and called 911

Billy came in and put his paws on her wounds

EMS and the police showed up soon

Grandma healed

The robber’s identity was later revealed

Marlin’s owner

He was arrested

He’d stolen some prescriptions

Billy had taken back the sack that Marlin stole

It was full of jewelry and Milkbones

After a few days, Billy and his mom escorted Grandma home

They sat backyard in the garden

Grandma’s hand running through Billy’s fluff

His ear’s back, face wide – smiling

His mama there too

The air smelling of Milkbones and love
