writings on life

May

This is one of my favorite months

But in walking tonight I had mixed feelings: both sad and elated

Ten years ago in May I graduated

Got married too

Still pink and purple flowers bloom

Gigantic white clouds zoom

Egrets, eagles, seagulls soar

A lot has ended in the last 10 years

The seasons and headlines remind me there’s not always much more

Slowly but surely the end for all of us nears

I plan my future as I walk

Think about kids, my dog, my friends

Enjoy the time with them – I may

Go to the beach, to work, the store I say

My degree on the wall

I hope to make good of it after all

There’s a cool breeze

Pollen and buds are displaced

I feel it, the sun, the man at my side

I freeze

Reminded that in the moment I’m alive

And feel a little relieved that like the plants

In time I very well may be replaced
