New Creation

We live in a world of doom and gloom

Even the best run places are a zoo

Made up of people like me and you

Earth carries on as it always has

Time happens to all – no one gets a pass

But even in antiquity there’s a story – a hope

Of things being made new

Of righteousness dwelling

Of justice and peace swelling

Through every generation, even amongst those with the best intentions

Eutopia eludes

I’ve read a story that resonates

I’ve got a premonition

One handed down from the greats

A world where the little gods are squashed

The dragon and serpent are drowned

Redemption, mercy, love are found

From Babylon to Egypt to Rome

No matter the cost

Even today, in Washington and the university

My very home

It’s plain to see

In the literature, the music, nature

All creation is yearning

Though the hungry lion still prowls

And the forbidden woman howls

I hear Lady Wisdom

I see and accept the gift given

One who came – a light in the darkness, the fulfilled hope of every heart

Death and evil extinguished

An empty tomb

A river of truth and healing

I’m watering that seed

When I don’t know what to do, standing

Holding on, like He’s doing for me

We’ll live

A new world of beauty and order

No pain, no death

All creation, all history set right

It’s good news – for me and you

Believe and live it now

In the King’s light
