Running to a Song

I heard a song today that reminded me of you

The guy was singing about a sad life and being alone

A dismal tune

Somehow the drums fueled me as I ran on my own

I felt my heart and brain connect with my muscles

I rolled down the street like the water of a river

My tired feet rustled

Past all the cars that couldn’t hear the same song above their noise

I pictured you singing that song

Its lyrics resonating

But I prayed for you this morning that it wouldn’t be long

Yeah, I’ve been praying

Till your path crosses hers

And the loneliness becomes a broken curse

I can see it

You both singing along

With the guitar sounds and that raspy voice

A duet coming out of the collective noise

A new song sung

A light melody

I’ll listen to it when I run through the fields

I’ll be like the wind

Carried by a song

You’ll have a partner and friend

And when it happens

I’ll sing along
