Grocery Shopping

She was coming out of the grocery store

Among the downtrodden of the town

As well as the mean

Looking forward to a new reality

She was pushing her shopping cart on a Tuesday afternoon

One wheel defective

Chipped paint on the sides

A reflection of how she felt inside

She had her goods in her reusable bags

Her loaded wallet in the child seat

Pushing through a not-too-crowded parking lot

Watching a mom with her daughter

Stressed out by all the things they hadn’t bought

A hooded stranger came up

And stealthily snatched her wallet

She wouldn’t be a victim

He took off running

She abandoned the cart and chased him

She was a seasoned runner

It was on

She tackled the thief on the lawn

She got her wallet back

She returned to her shopping cart

An empty child seat there

She had all her food and her wallet

Abundance

Legs that worked – a cardiovascular system

Ears that were sensitive to listen

She stuffed a 100 into an envelope and dropped it at the homeless shelter

Along with some extra canned goods

The same shelter the thief was later walking to

She felt a little better

Ate healthy that night in her warm house

Went to work the next day to try to help out

She was turning 35

Was just starting to dive

Reading

Observing

Learning

Along the way giving

Looking for the calling

Not necessarily stalling

Not a victim

Not better than anyone else

Confronting doubt

Wanting to rise above the system

Not missing out

Not petite

Glady preoccupied

One hundred percent alive

Grocery shopping

Pushing a full cart

Barely even noticing the empty seat
