Pills

Maybe everyone is normal

Everyone is medicated

Going to the doctor is now informal

You can talk on your cell phone

While your doctor looks at the computer screen

No one’s on time

Because no one has time

Just stare at the screen while you drive

Take your pills before work to help you focus

To help you not yell at your kids

To help you do the laundry

It’s all bogus

A pill to help you grieve your divorce and your childhood trauma

Another to help you ignore the remorse

Another can enable you to deal with more drama

You’ll get five more pills to counteract the side effects of the first five

Before you know it you won’t be alive

But with enough drugs in your veins we can keep you on a machine

While the clouds pass outside your window like in a dream

One you never got out to see

We can put a tube in every place

Take over your brain till there’s no more space

No one understands

There is no rescue in a pharmaceutical

Nothing to save you from your cubicle

Go outside

Run while you can

Even go slow

Get away from the pills

There’s a better thrill

Between the green lights and the ads

Through everything that’s bad

Life

Morality

What is normalcy?
