Hummingbird

What do You say about my heart

That’s all that matters, isn’t it?

Not my boss or peers, the internet

Not where I live, what I wear, what I do, or where I sit

What’s behind all of it?

You watch it flutter

You hear me sputter

Like a hummingbird

Worrying, rushing

At the forefront of my brain

What other people say

All this pressure is crushing

So I play it safe and stay out of the way

On occasion I try to remember Your Word

All these people here

All this happening

It’s all a little maddening

I’m trying to step right by each

Let my heart not be divided

I’m reminded You see right through it

I know it’s a war but please don’t quit

Will You clean it

And calm it

Save it

As You repair the breach

Settle the storm in me

My prayer, my care

What I know

All that matters is

When You look out Your window

You delight in what You see
