Anna

You were there in my dream

You talked to me

But I felt unseen

We were in the sun on a patio

I saw your dark hair, long and black

Your pretty smile

Blue t-shirt

You glowed

You looked my way then went about the party

My hope fizzled like a deflated balloon

I was hurt

Because I didn’t know you anymore

Several years had passed

I couldn’t keep up

As time lapsed

Didn’t get to ask you about your career

Or your new hobbies

What you’ve been up to all these years

About your boyfriend

Or where you live

Surely before it wasn’t all pretend

We went into separate rooms

I looked out the window and saw in the sky

A bunch of multicolored balloons in flight

I wiped a tear from my eye
