Me & My Pup

I had a dream last night that you left too soon

Premature

You left my heart hollow

A pain I could feel, for sure

Too much to swallow

The worst pain

You were gone

I was glad to wake up and see you there – right by me

Breathing, though 3 am, lively

But I had to leave

Off to work

To earn money to buy the things we like: shish kabobs and passes to the park

You have all my money but more so my whole heart

I was happy again to see you there when I got home from work

You sat in the window then you greeted me

Your tail like pampas grass – perked

I hugged you and we danced

How I love you

The way you wiggle and prance

I thought about my sad dream last night and decided to embrace you more

So I grabbed your leash and treats and we went for the door

The fall sky turned gray as we walked

Thunder cracked

Rain came down

We started to jog as the air turned cold

The raindrops pummeled us

But we made little fuss

You trotted right beside me

Two companions in a race

You and me passing through time and space

Four years now

You smiled despite the rain

We were having fun

Onlookers on the porch watched us

But we didn’t explain

We kept running

I looked up and saw the rainbow in the sky – two in fact

They were in the sky till we got back

We dried off at home as it poured some more

I fed you dinner

Then your shish kabob

You being happy delights me

My dear pup, let’s live

While we can

Let not our strength be robbed

Or our fun dampened

Let’s have as many adventures as we can

This day, this moment – our reality

The greatest joy – touchable

You and me

My sweet pup

Here, alive, lovely and loveable
