Fall Décor

Late September finally

It’s the days of Pinterest and Instagram

The leaves outside are shifting

I look for inspiration

At the computer – there I am

Lo and behold – after all the scrolling and clicking

I find my station

A serene photo of a doorstep

Lavished with the most beautiful fall décor

From the cover of Homes & Gardens, I bet

I make my list and head to the store – Michael’s

But not before my dog asks for a walk

I step away from the computer and grab his leash

I dare not balk

The shopping list hangs in my reach

We step outside

It’s like a hurricane

My dog’s snout raises

Sixty degrees out with strong winds swirling

The wind grabs my list and sends it twirling

I don’t chase it

We watch the leaves and the rising tide

We fully embrace it

Grateful for fall, the cool air, the fact we’re alive

We stare at the orange, yellow, and red

The amber sky

Then it darkens

We head back to our house

Without the shopping list

Back to our porch

There’s a new twist

An orange pumpkin sits on the step

Leaves rest on the stoop

Perfect fall décor

Me and my pup sit there and recoup

We watch the hurricane

Better than anything online

Simple – the outdoors conquering the mundane

We take it in

Out here: no screens, no price tags, no filter or thumbs

It offers something for everyone

Me, my pup, a pumpkin and some leaves

All the fall décor we need

Less

Reminds me of what I heard someone say: “Perfection is not when there’s nothing left to add

But when there’s nothing left to take away.” ~
