Welcome, Fall

The summer is ending

Leaves are drying up

Sun setting sooner

Water temperature dropping

Time isn’t stopping

No. It’s marching, as they say

Forward to the future

Here it is, September

My soul beckons the fall

I doubt my old friends remember me at all

For it’s now been three summers ago

When we are all at the beach together

Maybe they were friends I didn’t know – ever

Now the leaves are dying

The waves are still crashing

I’m looking back

The sun is setting

In the quiet I don’t hear anyone laughing

For they’re all gone

Like leaves falling off the trees

Time marches on

I don’t think they remember me

But it’s okay

I’ve got the memories

Of fun times that were

Sun, ocean, sand, youth

It fades into a blur

Like encroaching fall then winter

I must face the truth and not be bitter

A season past

Friends gone for good

But I see beauty here

In the fall air

On a new path
